A Birthday Reflection: Building a Business—and a Life—with Intention
Birthdays always have a way of making me pause and reflect.
As another year passes, I find myself thinking less about milestones and more about purpose. The older I get, the more I'm drawn to building a life that is deeply intentional and aligned with what matters most to me: my family, meaningful work, and creating not just beautiful homes, but homes our clients truly love living in.
When I first started Gina Lauren Interiors nearly nine years ago, I had dreams of growing a successful interior design firm. Like many entrepreneurs, I thought success was measured by growth—the number of projects, revenue, recognition, or how large the business became.
Today, my definition of success looks very different.
Success isn't about becoming the biggest design firm. It's about becoming the most intentional.
It's about creating a business that reflects our values every single day. It's about designing timeless homes that feel authentic to the families who live in them. It's about partnering with clients who appreciate craftsmanship, thoughtful details, and trust the design process. It's about building a team that feels inspired, supported, challenged creatively, and genuinely proud of the work we create together.
I've learned that beautiful design is never just about aesthetics.
It's about creating spaces where life unfolds.
Where children gather around the kitchen island after school.
Where holidays become lifelong traditions.
Where quiet mornings begin with a cup of coffee in a room that brings peace.
Where families celebrate milestones, welcome new beginnings, and create memories they'll carry for decades.
Those are the moments that matter most to us.
As I look ahead, this next chapter feels incredibly hopeful.
I'm excited to welcome new clients who connect with our philosophy and appreciate timeless, intentional design. I look forward to cultivating meaningful relationships with architects, builders, craftsmen, and industry partners who share our commitment to excellence. I'm equally excited to continue growing the incredible team at Gina Lauren Interiors and creating even greater alignment in everything we do.
More than anything, I hope we never lose sight of why we started.
The greatest reward isn't seeing a project published in a magazine or beautifully photographed after installation.
The greatest reward is receiving a message months later from a client telling us how much they love being home.
It's hearing that their kitchen has become the heart of family gatherings.
It's watching them settle into spaces that feel deeply personal, thoughtfully collected over time, and designed specifically for the way they live.
Knowing that we had the privilege of helping bring that vision to life is what inspires us every single day.
It reminds us that this is exactly what we're meant to do.
